ELEMENTARY LEVEL – PREPOSITIONS

The class is made up of 5 students
The teacher starts the lesson by introducing me – the guest in the classroom
Warm-up – the teacher asks ”What did you do yesterday?”; the students take turns in answering, which enables each of them to speak, and to use past tense; if they do not know a word, they check it in the dictionary
The teacher uses the board to introduce the lesson – prepositions
She does not dictate; she highlights the important words; she explains providing further examples and situations
The students receive handouts: (1) they fill in the blanks with AT/ON/IN/ + adverbs of time; the students work individually; they take turns in answering; (2) fill in – individual work; the error correction is made by the teacher, sometimes self-correction; (3)Lisa's diary – to practise prepositions; they do the first example together, then they work individually; (4) write sentences with IN (a rephrasing exercise); (5) write AT/ON/IN/Ǿ; (6) a text to fill in – individual work; (7) write the words in the correct column – individual work; (8) complete the chart – the name of the holiday (eg Valentine's Day), they have to pronounce and write the date (14/2 – the fourteenth of February)
 The teacher writes the ordinal numeral on the board; there follows a discussion about national days and holidays – traditional dishes, customs, etc.
The last handout – a text divided into paragraphs – the students have to put a title to each one; they read the paragraphs in turns
A discussion to round up the lesson – some of them were going home: ”Would you recommend other people to visit Malta?”
